I met this family about a month ago at Cosi. I happened to be eating all by myself (never happens!), my husband and 3 girls were in Louisville at a cousins birthday party. As I was sitting alone I had the chance to watch this family interact together. Often times when we take our kids out to a restaurant, everyone is stressed and the kids tend to act up and then we as parents, in turn get upset and it is more stressful then anything else.

This little family was having a casual meal and enjoying life. They were too adorable for words and at first I was thinking "are these guys for real?!" Yes, they are. This was the first time I had ever done the following, but I decided to go up to them and give them a free photo session. Keep in mind I never approach strangers and tell them I am a photographer. I just had a feeling that I should photograph this family. I'm not sure if this is something that I will continue to do, but I really felt like it was time for me to 'pay it forward'. I have been truly blessed with things in my life and I wanted to be able to offer something to someone else...especially someone who deserves it. I want those reading this to be compelled to do a kind act for someone else also.

Matthew & Ashley ENGAGED! {Lexington, KY Photographer}

What a memorable day this was! Yesterday I was talking to Matthew about the time of day we were taking pictures and he mentioned that right before the session he was going to be picking up Ashley's engagement ring. They had set the wedding date but he hadn't yet officially proposed. At the moment they pulled up for their session he flashed the ring box to show me and then walked around to get Ashley out of the car. After helping her out of the car, Matthew got down on one knee and proposed right then & there...and, lucky me, I was able to catch it all. Congratulations on your engagement, Matthew and Ashley!

Funny story: they wanted to include Ashley's dog in a couple pictures...well unfortunately I apparently am NOT the dog whisperer and this dog wanted to eat my brains.... she kept barking at me. I am going to blame it on my camera pointed right at her. So we had to put the poor dear back in the car.

I had the opportunity of photographing an adorable couple this morning at Keeneland. I've known Mackenzie for a handful of years and this girl has got the most darling smile and gorgeous head of hair! Jake and Mackenzie were high school sweet hearts and will be tying the knot early next year. I love taking engagement pictures because it always blasts me back to when my hubby and I were taking our very own engagement pictures and how I felt at that moment in my lifetime. First off, this was SUCH a tough decision. Ms. Sarah Claire is growing, and SO adorable. This baby is one of the happiest I have met. Mom and Grandma came by yesterday and I was able to capture some fun pictures at The Henry Clay Estate. This morning I had the wonderful opportunity of capturing my girls with their grandparents and their cousin Kaylee. The two babies are 2 months apart and both have some pretty awesome birthdates. Coppers is 8.9.10, and Kaylees is 10.10.10. Pretty cool huh?! We got a bit sprinkled on during the session but I am happy that I was able to capture these little cuties on the front lawn of their grandparents house. My In-laws have 4 granddaughters, and a their first grandson is due to make his appearance mid June. This photo session was our birthday gift to Grandma Jayne. Happy Birthday!

It's that time of the year again for my annual minisession event. In the past I have held minisessions at a local Lexington children's boutique that has sadly closed its doors. After pondering over fun locations nearby, I was ENAMORED by the wonderful idea of holding minisessions at Lexington's annual kite fest. Just imagine your loved ones surrounded by hundreds of kites flying through the air. Wow...let's do this! If you are just as excited as I am, give me a call and book a minisession. I will need to receive your non-refundable payment of $200 before officially booking your session (paypal or check accepted). Your session fee includes a complete CD of the images captured that day (10-15 images).

When: April 9th between 12-4pm

I have made some revisions to my website by adding lots of new pictures from recent sessions and updating my price list and session fee. You can view them both under 'investment' here. It has been 4 yrs. since I have increased my session fee, however there still isn't a minimum print requirement.

I wanted to share an experience recently that I had with some clients of mine. You may remember the family pictured below. The week after taking their families pictures they found out that their sweet dog Maggie (who would be turning 5 on Christmas day) had cancer and passed away within days after that news. The mother emailed me and told me the sad news but also mentioned how thankful she was that they included their dog in their photo session. After this experience I asked Debbie (the mother) if I could share her story, here is a bit of the email that she sent me:

"I am so grateful to you for having captured these precious memories forever. It really helps ease the loss. I, like you, couldn't agree more that pictures are magical snapshots of our lives. They are ways to keep our memories alive and well...a way to keep celebrating all that our lives hold dear to us. I am honored if you choose to share our story, as we had no idea that those were to be her last days. She was taken so soon, as she would have been five Christmas day, and we thought we had plenty of Christmas' with her. So, we never really know what our future holds and as you said...waiting until....you loose ten pounds...until you have an occasion that justifies pictures...these until's can be lost opportunities...lost treasures."

I couldn't have said it any better. Treasures. That's what pictures are. Years to come when your memory isn't as sharp as it used to be, you will be able to pull out your pictures and relive those moments. Thanks to all who have chosen me to help capture those special times for your family.

Meet the Hester Family. This family is made up of two loving parents, 6 year old twins and 2 year old triplets! Talk about having your hands full. I have got to give it to the parents, Molly and Pete were so level headed and laid back during the whole session. I was VERY impressed. These children were so adorable and it was fun getting to see and experience all of their fun little personalities. We also had two special helpers (2 of their care givers) with us so that we could get the kids rounded up and so things would be less hectic.

Sweet Fran contacted me and told me she was interested in getting family pictures taken of her daughter and husband along with her brother in-law and sister in-law while the in-laws were visiting. I thought it was such a sweet idea...adorable Ms. "A" looks like she is loved all around. I'm sure she will treasure pictures of not only her loving parents but adoring aunt and uncle as well.

Contrary to what the weather channel had been stating the last couple of days, today's weather was not high of 64 and sunny...however we were very lucky and missed any major showers coming our way.

Upon arrival I could tell this would be a great session. Aside from how gorgeous everyone is/was... I was able have some fun girl time with Ms. Ava talking about her favorite color (which is blue, I love that...not the average pink that most girls this age like), movies, and explore her backyard a bit. When taking her picture her dad from afar asked Ava to tell a joke. I'm not quite sure how it started but I remember the punchline was "Banana Pants". I love how jokes don't have to make sense to be funny! Throughout the whole session we would say "Banana Pants" and she would smile, it was adorable.

Despite the mucky weather we were able to have a great time and get some gorgeous pictures out of the experience.

What a fun, energetic family this is! I love the dynamic, they are exactly opposite of our family...with three boys. On a daily basis we deal with dress-up clothes, chapstick fetish's, princess wands, etc. I am guessing things are pretty different in their household :) These boys were more than willing to take pictures anywhere I suggested. It was cute, during one part of the session they were like "Hey look, a tree! Can we go climb it?" I then responded "sure!". Nice enthusiastic bunch. I didn't blog any tree pictures but there is a sweet one from later in the session when we fed the ducks.

I love being able to experience fun milestones with couples and families...I have known Josh since we were teenagers and met Lauren shortly before they got married. I sure love photographing this family. Ever since big boy "J" was born I have been capturing these guys, not only are these repeat clients but they are good friends...extra bonus!

We started our session at the stables where they keep their horse, Skylar. Unfortunately some of the other horses were not on their best behavior so we had to move our session to another location. It's funny, Kim was telling me she has been around horses all her life and was very comfortable around them. I on the other hand am not around horses AT all....when her horse came close to me I admit, I was a bit nervous. The other horses around us were acting a bit territorial and were watching me pretty closely. In the back of my head I was thinking "Um, are these the types of animals where you are supposed to meet their gaze, or avoid eye contact?" Who knows? Although I was a bit nervous around these animals, they are such beautiful creatures and I am glad I was able to capture some special pictures for Kim and her family to cherish for years to come.

I loved scheduling this session, Mom thought it would be a great idea for a mothers day/fathers day present to get pictures done with her daughter (sadie) and sadie's grandparents. This little one is truly loved!

LOVE this family! I had the privilege to photograph them a little over a year ago when Ms. B was a new baby. Boy has she grown into a gorgeous little lady! Miles is super duper handsome as well as you can see. This family is so classy, polite, sweet, stylin' and fun! we went for a short walk while the kids rode on 'the gator'. Mr. M is one of the best drivers I've seen in a long time...I was very impressed!

I have had the pleasure to know the family below for a couple of months. They are so sweet and I am sad to see them leave next week for NY. Not only are they completely gorgeous but they are all so full of life and fun. It was also great having Grandma visiting so she could jump into a couple of pictures. Also while taking pictures the kids caught a baby frog. What a fun morning!

3 year olds are so much fun to photograph, especially Catherine. From doing ballet on stumps in the field to looking for potato bugs this little girl was full of energy and excitement. Mom mentioned that before our session, Ms. C woke up a bit grumpy from her nap, luckily she was able to play and just have fun. My favorite moment of the day is of the following picture of Catherine with Mom laying on the grass. This little 3 yr old literally laid there at least 10 minutes calmly listening to her mom tell stories about chickens on the farm! Capturing sweet moments like that are why I love doing what I do!

This family is full of sunshine and rainbows for sure! From the first moment meeting them at their house I knew we would have a fun color palette for a photo session. I love the fact that Patty wanted my opinion on outfits and was not afraid to mix colors and patterns. Not only is this family GORGEOUS, which doesn't really need to be mentioned because you will see for yourself, but while watching the Chattha's in their home before our session I really got a taste of the huge amount of love streaming from these individuals. For example, "mom" cuddling on her children to "dad" rolling on the floor with his 2 yr old and playing trucks. Thanks Chattha family for the stress free/refreshing morning!

Some of my favorite sessions occur when a client invites me to their home to photograph their family. It seems like everyone is more comfortable and in their element. One of the main reasons we took pictures at their home was to capture their sweet dogs. It was also fun following around little Chloe while she showed me some secret hiding places and her favorite stuffed animal. What a great morning!

2 giggling twins and a baby, talk about fun! Mom and Dad must have their hands full for sure with 2 yr. old twin girls and a 7 month old, but these kids are definitely full of sunshine and rainbows and everything adorable! Spending the morning with Finley, Kennedy, and Brody was a delight. Watching the twins skip around a large tree to mommy singing, while Brody was kicking back in the grass chewing on leaves was a definite joy :) Thanks kids for sharing some giggles and playing in the leaves with me.

I surprised this couple by taking them to my absolute favorite place to photograph. As we drove up, Alan hopped out of the car just to 'make sure' we were in the right place. Yes, the exterior does feel a bit rugged but I LOVE my special little street in Richmond.

The easiest couples to photograph are those that can, without hesitation, show their love and affection for one another; while I just happen to be standing there staring through my lens. Ah, young love ::sigh:: Congrats to Alan and Katina on their engagement.

Two years of marriage = one happy sister and brother in law. While visiting Utah over Christmas I took some pictures of my sister and her husband. I had such a fun time capturing their loving and goofy personalities. Our session began at the Utah State Capitol (the inside reminded us of Daddy Warbucks' house from Annie) and ended near their house in West Jordan in a field of weeds. These two braved the super cold weather and looked great while doing it.

Chuck has a yawning reaction after smiling for a period of time. Here is Desiree's response after a few countless yawns during our session. These two crack me up...

This is my second year now photographing for USEF. The United States Equestrian Federation offers some great clothing in their gift shops which can be seen here.

Since photographing them last year they have some great new items that will be added to their website; outdoor clothing such as zip up jackets, warm coats, hats and cashmere sweaters. Any equestrian lover around would want to bundle up in these lovelies.

I had such a great time photographing this sweet couple below. One reason is because it was my Brother in-law and his fiance :) It was so refreshing to watch Allen and Britany together and to see their budding love. Stolen glances, giggily moments, and interlocked fingers. Normally during a session I talk to my clients about the importance of not smiling at the camera and focusing on the interaction with the other people in the picture. This couple had no problem with that.

One love that is shared by two, I have found with you.
